How has your mom made sacrifices to always put you first?
The very moment a woman finds out she’s pregnant, it’s as if a “mom” switch is turned on in her brain. Instantly, and sometimes without even being aware of it, the sacrifices she makes for her child begin. The food she puts into her body, the food & drinks she now avoids (sushi, turkey sandwiches, and wine – we’re talking to you!), and her sleep schedule change. Her exercise routine may change, the vacations she takes may adjust (hello beach, goodbye skiing), and the immediate instinct to protect the precious baby growing inside her takes over. And that’s just the beginning…..
Think about all those things your mom did for you, without any expectations, grand gestures, or need for thanks. Some were big, some were small, and some you may not have ever even noticed. Staying up with you through all hours of the night, caring for you when you’re sick, caring for you when she’s sick, planning your birthday parties, making sure you have the right clothes for dress up day at school, volunteering in your class, making your favorite meals, adjusting her work schedule so she can be at your soccer game or band concert, helping you with homework and school projects, ironing on Girl Scout badges late at night, coordinating carpools, being there for you when you’ve had your first fight with your best friend, and your first break-up, and the list goes on.
Don’t forget that she also has to make time for her significant other, and other children in the house! Moms don’t put themselves first anymore, and that’s ok! They are not looking for a trophy or an award – this is what they do for those they love, and sometimes it’s nice to remind them just how special they are to you. Thank them for all the sacrifices they have made to make you who you are today. Thank them for sharing their wisdom, life experiences, laughter, tears, joy, and sorrow with you. And tell them you love them!
